JACKIE SEES WEIRD AL 2025

i saw weird al today! ive been looking forward to this show since October and the odds were starting to be stacked against me but it all worked out perfectly in the end and it was truly blissful. im going to write something of a recap or review of some kind but please note this is my second ever concert ever (first being aquabats in 2019) and i am not a professional. just a nerd.

okay, just to get this out of the way, the opener was puddles pity party. who i have literally never heard of until i think? he performed with the aquabats or sparks or some shit like that. i dont know. i kept getting a youtube video recommended to me for weeks of him performing with like, weird al sparks aquabats fucking somebody i dont know man anyways i heard about him before but never really paid any mind to him and i dont think i ever really saw any clips of him so i didn't know what his show was like at all. i will say some parts i did laugh, and just being there to see it with everyone made it so much fun. this guy is definitely a live act. but he still isn't for me. which is unfortunate because i love clowns! but the comedy is lost on me. him and al are a match made, though. puddles was fine.

but then al finally came out after about 30/45 minutes. i thought i wouldn't cry but as soon as i heard his voice ring out with tacky, i started bawling my eyes out uncontrollably. it was unreal finally seeing him and knowing he was there. he started from the bus and walked all the way to the stage, and i got a teeny tiny glimpse of him just beyond the amphitheater itself. he wasnt hard to miss with all of his colors, haha. the stages camera man was following him all the way and putting his trek from the bus to the stage on the big screen. and then we all finally get to see him enter the actual stage, and everyone fucking loses it. including me. i start crying even more finally seeing him get on stage, and tears were completely obscuring my view so i kept trying to wipe them away. i was so excited i couldn't think straight. i really like this guy. a girl in front of me with a slightly better lawn spot kept looking back and saw me bawling my eyes out. she offered to trade me her spot and said "you're much more excited about this than i am" it was really nice of her and im really thankful she noticed that and did that for me.

i knew every song on this set list and made it a point i did. i knew nearly every single lyric and hearing each song start was like being reborn. there were parts where i couldn't have sung any louder if i tried. my throat is still paying for it!!! this set list isn't perfect, but i loved it anyways and frankly i realized that any song he played was awesome because it was Him and it just sounded so good and so alive. i love tacky quite a bit. getting to hear it live was awesome, but i was so focused on him Being there that i didn't get to pay much attention to the song haha.

then came mission statement!! i was starting to calm down just a bit. he opens the song telling all of us that the venue required him to do a power point presentation. it was really funny. and hearing it live was so interesting and im surprised he played it. mission statement isn't my favorite ever, but i think its a decent song!

next was polkamania!!! i actually hadn't heard this yet until the day right before the show bcs i knew it was going to be on the playlist and wanted to make sure id heard it. i love polkamania, but hate the songs in it. yeah i hate new music. dont look at me. but he really hasn't strayed at all from his original polka sound and it was really fun live. including um, the ass shaking clips from WAP lol. which i still cant believe he put it in the polka!!!!!!

EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG!!!!!!!!! me and this song go waaaay back. i loved this song before i got super duper into weird al when i saw tmbg fans discussing it on a tmbg forum and they all were debating on if it truly sounded like them. (because everything you know is wrong is a style parody of tmbg) i wanted to be the judge of that. and ive always felt like it sounded exactly like tmbg. i feel like its a more faithful style parody than other ones hes done. it shows a great respect he has for tmbg. ive loved this song deeply since 2018 before i ever checked out the rest of his stuff. ive heard it hundreds of times and i know every lyric. hearing him break into this was religious. it changed me. i belted out the whole song like my life depended on it and everyone around me didn't know a word. it was amazing. it just. i would watch this live 100 times more if i could.

one more minute!!! this is a weird al song i never really cared for. but seeing it live made me feel like i had loved the song for years. he sounded just like he would've in the 80s and he even did some audience interaction (which i was not involved in bcs i was all the way in the lawn. i am poor.) he gave two girls scarves and one girl these stupid looking heart printed boxers he pulled from his pants LOL. when he went into the crowd he put his leg up on this girls seat and got super close to her face. i was so mad it wasn't me, man. livid it wasn't me!!!!! i want his scarves and his heart boxers and him in my face. but it was a great performance regardless. i love the 80s representation in this setlist

there was a brief break for a wardrobe change because next was smells like nirvana, and al had to dress up in his kurt costume, lol. there were a couple of breaks between songs for wardrobe changes, so ill just cover those breaks now. the first one was just the another one rides the bus clip from the weird movie, which was fun to see again. especially as a huge john deacon fan, lol. but then the ones that came after it were these disjointed silly montages of completely random no context clips of al doing random stuff in cartoons, tv appearances, movie appearances, so on. it was very funny. and there were some clips from his altv interviews too which was awesome. they played the we all have cellphones Michael stipe clip a bit early into the show, which was so funny knowing it was going to be performed in full later. my favorite clips played during a break however was an edited scene from whiplash with weird al as the drummer. it was edited flawlessly and was so well done. and cathartic to see al talk back to the guy in that movie cause god he is a dick! in general the clip shows are a great addition to the shows and i love them. very funny.

smells like nirvana!!! it was sooo good my soul left my body. the whole theatre erupted when the first riff broke in. you could barely see al's face under his big ratty kurt cobain wig. this was another song i knew every lyric to as its one of my favorites on off the deep end. god it was so exciting seeing the first wardrobe change bcs i didn't expect him to do any at all.

DARE TO BE STUPIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD there was another break for this one because they did a costume change into the iconic devo yellow suits for it. when i looked up and saw them walk out in the costumes I SCREAMED SO LOUDDD i fucking love dare to be stupid and my breath could not catch up with how fast i was singing along. it was so good man. dare to be stupid bitch!!!!!

here comes the medley. a whopping medley. the songs in this medley are party in the cia, pentiums, bedrock anthem, my bologna, ricky, ode to a superhero, rocky road, eat it, surgeon, word crimes, and Canadian idiot. its worth noting i ADORE half of the songs in this medley. bedrock anthem is in my top 10 weird al songs period and i DEFINITELY know every word to that. but i also love pentiums, ricky, and word crimes, and honestly the whole medley is just stupendous its all so good. even ode to a superhero, which i dont care for, was great to hear. everyone waved their phone flashlights during it! but by far the best part of the medley for me was bedrock anthem. i love that fucking song. i cannot emphasize enough how much i love that song. they played the flintstones clips in the middle of the song too!! it was so good!!! another part of the medley i was so excited for was word crimes. im ADDICTED to that damn song. and ricky was also a lot of fun, one of the members of the backing band dressed up as lucy and did her vocals!! it was so cute and awesome. the only thing this medley was truly missing was al doing Ricky's laugh. hoh hoh hoh hohhh!!! i almost did it out loud at the end until i realized they cut it off. for a medley, they did pretty big chunks of a lot of these songs which im thankful for bcs i worried they would cut out parts i liked. the medley was definitely a highlight of this show. also al did a couple of tiny wardrobe changes for it. he started in a secret service outfit, took parts off for pentiums, put on a surgeons bandana for like a surgeon, and a silly Canadian flag jacket for Canadian idiot. it was so charming and silly.

FAT!!!!!!! as a fat person this song gets a pass. its just 3 minutes of yo mama jokes and i love it so much anyways. ohhh mannn seeing this live. duuudee. it was already awesome seeing it live, but al LITERALLY BROUGHT OUT THE FAT SUIT FOR IT. which i didn't see coming AT ALL!!!!! he looked sooo tired of it around the end of the song but i applaud him for doing it. i now get to say i saw al perform in the fat suit. it was so awesome. they also played the full intro from the original music video and this kid beside me was reciting it word for word. ding dong man, ding dong!!!

next was basically 4 songs i was just okay with. captain underpants theme, now you know from the weird movie, a George Harrison cover, and its my world from milo murphys law. i think its my world was my favorite from this just because its a really funky banger. ive never seen that show. nor have i seen the captain underpants movie! i did see the weird movie though. just not enough to remember now you know. i think now you know sooorta overstayed its welcome, but i think thats literally the point of the song. watching the people around me fall for the fake out endings was funny, haha. captain underpants was only fun when you could sing tra la laaaa along with him. the George Harrison cover was a song i didn't really know, BUT al sounded soooo amazing singing it and his voice was just. so energetic and clear and clean and it was amazing.

SKIPPER DAN!!!!!!!!!!! i was looking forward to this a week before the show. i FUCKING LOVE SKIPPER DAN and when i realized it was on this set list i was OVER THE MOONNNNNN. they played the music video for it on the screen during the song which was fun bcs the animator for the skipper dan music video also animated stuff for tmbg's kids songs!! i could recognize that art style anywhere. al wore a cute little skipper tour guide hat during the song. it was amazinggg hearing skipper dan live and i knew it was starting at the first note and i just screamed "SKIPPER DAN" three times like a maniac i was so excitedddd. look at those hippos wiggling their ears!!!!!!!

ebay!!!!! i decently enjoy this song. it was 10 times better live, however. and the whole crowd sung along and it just sounded so cathartic and amazing. considering its a backstreet boys parody about ebay... the stage lights were red, blue, yellow, and green just like the ebay logo and it looked so good and pretty and i lovedd it it was one of my favorite parts of the show.

stop forwarding that crap to me came next and this was SPIRITUAL....SOO FUCKING SPIRITUAL....i sung this like i was in gods choir bro. it was just....so perfect...and honestly i loved the animated lyric videos he used for a lot of these songs, but esp this one. i guess its nothing particularly special but i really liked it lol.

WHITE AND NERDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY HE CAME ON STAGE IN A SEGWAY AND HE WAS IN THE FULL GET UP W/ THE JACKET AND THE BANDANA AND ALL.... some IDIOTS blocked my view for half of it and i was so fucking pissed because they weren't even allowed to be where they were standing AND THEY DIDNT EVEN WALK AWAY UNTIL IT ENDED. but i still got some enjoyment out of white and nerdy. the whole crowd adored it. its arguably al's biggest song BUT ITS LITERALLY SO GOOD OF COURSE IT IS DUH

AMISH PARADISE CAME NEXT and the whole band came back to the stage in all black get ups. i know amish paradise by heart at this point and i fucking love the lyrics so much. al looked so good in his silly amish costume he looked just like he did in the music video. oh my god and the choir/vocalization parts were ONCE AGAIN SPIRITUAL it was truly amazing ugghhh it was so good. UGGHHH

on comes the encore. this opened with we all have cellphones which was so fucking exciting bcs i saw the interview it came from literally the day before the show. everyone turned the flash on their phone and waved their phones around. even my dad joined in. it was hilarious and amazing.

and then came the saga begins...i actually hate this song usually and i usually consider it my least favortie weird al song ever. but seeing and hearing it live was. it was so moving and amazing and beautiful and genuinely made me really love the song again. crowds singing entire parts of a song at concerts has always made me cry and its always just been one little thing that always gets me emotional no matter what. so imagine how i reacted being able to sing with the entire crowd "my, my, this here anakin guy
maybe vader, someday later, now hes just a small fry
and he left his home and kissed his mommy goodbye and said
soon im gonna be a jedi, soon im gonna be a jedi"
yes these lyrics are silly any other time, but i genuinely started bawling my eyes out all over again uncontrollably. all of a sudden saga begins was the only song ever made and everyone in the world was singing it with me. it was incomparable. and honestly, yoda was similar. the whole crowd sung the chorus of yoda so perfectly and clearly and it sounded so good and yoda was really when it felt like we were all apart of the show.

in the middle of yoda they did this really long section where they...um..? im not really sure. a lot of gibberish, chanting, silly songs, silly noises, a bit of lion sleeps tonight mixed in there, a star wars song in some alien language in there, and they all had it in sync and perfectly memorized. it was hypnotizing. and al was moving his body like a crazy guy! it was a really great part of the show. and then suddenly this segment ended, and yoda continued. it was perfect and i didn't want it to end. i wasn't ready at all for it to end. but then it did. everyone was in storm trooper costumes and one person was in a darth vader costume. it was so cute. and everyone got together and bowed, and then it was over. even as my dad was ushering me towards the exit i couldn't stop staring at the stage. i didn't want to mentally leave this show. now i dont want to mentally leave weird al at all. this was truly amazing and im so so glad i got to experience it. i hope i can do it again.
